Rocking Horse Farm (RHF), a residential and commercial development in Fargo, ND, sought to promote the idea of bringing a brewery to its growing community. After researching local brewery partnerships, Fargo Brewing Company agreed to provide their original-flavor beer as the base for a custom promotional piece.
The beer cans were designed with a clean white base and a label printed on clear adhesive material, allowing the design to integrate seamlessly with the can. The label features an illustration of RHF’s signature Red Barn office and a nearby wildlife pond with cattails—an authentic landmark of the property. The name Cattail Lager was chosen to reflect both the natural surroundings and the flavor profile of the beer, following a series of ag-inspired name explorations.
A maroon band wraps around the label, carrying RHF’s tagline Handcrafted Community with a custom twist: Handcrafted Brew. This subtle branding extension reinforced the connection between community, craft, and place.
Due to mailing restrictions, the cans were hand-delivered to prospective tenants and business partners—creating a memorable, personal experience that aligned with RHF’s values.
I later adapted this custom beer concept for Magnum Electric as a creative way to announce the company’s rebrand to loyal customers. The beer served as both a thoughtful gift and a memorable vehicle for delivering the brand update. It was very well received by their client base.
